RITA MARCOTULLI

Pianist and composer among the most successful and appreciated at international level, Rita Marcotulli began her meteoric career at the end of the 80s and thanks to prestigious collaborations - just to name a few, Peter Erskine, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Enrico Rava, Andy Sheppard, she quickly established herself as an important figure at international level on the contemporary jazz scene: in 1987 the magazine Musica Jazz voted her as Best New Talent; in 1998 the Guardian awarded her Te woman next door as best CD of the year; in 1989 she joined Billy Cobham's group with whom she performed all over the world, in 1992 she joined Dewey Redman's group with whom she collaborated for 15 years playing all over Europe and South America. Bobo Stenson and John Taylor.

Since the mid-90s, with such a rich and varied international experience, he returned to Italy alternating his own jazz projects with collaborations in the world of song including the Pino Daniele - Pat Metheny group, Giorgio Gaber, Gino Paoli, Noa.

Her eclectic career also includes cinema: in 2009 she created the soundtrack for the film “Basilicata coast to coast”, by Rocco Papaleo, for which she received the Ciak d'Oro in 2010, the Nastro d'Argento for best soundtrack and the David di Donatello for best musician in 2011, the first woman ever to receive this award.

In 2019, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella appointed her Officer of the Republic. Also in 2019, she was appointed member of the Royal Swedish Academy of music.

RITA MARCOTULLI | PIANO SOLO LIVE PROJECTS & IMPROVISATION

«I believe that there is no hierarchy in music. They told me: “You do jazz, but you played with pop artists”. I don’t believe that there is classical music and folk songs, but that there is beautiful and ugly music. How do you recognize it? Behind the beautiful music there is always a search, a desire for originality, and I can find this in the Beatles as in Bach».

STAY TUNED!..

...RITA'S NEW SOLO PROJECT WILL BE RELEASED VERY SOON!!!

Jazz has the peculiarity of being an improvised music. It is always fresh. And it regenerates itself every time we play it. Even the same piece, the melody is the same but it will never be the same on any of the nights the concert is held. It also depends a lot on the audience. On the type of response. On the electricity that you perceive in the spectators, on how involved they are. That also gives us strength. It is another energy to be able to best express what we feel.

ENSEMBLE | RITA MARCOTULLI

Mixture. A concept that for Rita Marcotulli has been an inspiration for many of her solo musical projects, as well as, in its Greek version, the title for an album ('koinè'), for example. But the idea of mixture reappears especially in her ensemble projects and other musical collaborations, which has been a source of strong inspiration and inventiveness, translated into various genres and collaborations, lives Rita's music.

In Rita's varied musical formations, accents and tastes of jazz music are made explicit, explored far and wide.

RITA MARCOTULLI | PIANO & EFFECTS

PAOLO FRESU | TRUMPET, FLUGHLORN & EFFECTS

What Rita and Paolo have in common is certainly the search for the “beautiful” of musical art, sometimes in a simple, direct, acoustic way. Sometimes filtered by a pinch of electronics that makes the project go beyond the immense palette of colors of contemporary music. With the ability to improvise and conquer unexpected territories firmly in mind. With the jazz that made them grow but especially everything that is good music firmly in mind. An encounter made of grace, sensitivity and emotions. Designed with wisdom and proposed with style and elegance. No other words are needed. This is a concert of those that serve the head but should be let down to the heart.

In collaboration with Pannonica

It is not always true that the meeting of multiple cultures generates winners and losers. On the contrary, it happens that sometimes it generates something new, another feeling, a fusion of each individual cultural heritage, creating a fantastic alchemy. This is the case of the meeting between the four talented musicians.

If we speak of different cultures, we must add that these artists have always met on a common level with regards to artistic sensitivity, feeling, and the great musicality that they are able to draw from their instruments.

Varela, drummer, composer and also the voice of the duo. Warm voice, modulated and lyrical when necessary, but above all full of registers.
