What is the common thread that unites Ryūichi Sakamoto and Danilo Rea? Their beloved piano is, but only in part. The other bond, even deeper, is the Love for Melody, the "Singing".

Both have explored, studied and played many musical styles and genres, uniting them beyond the common rules, that beyond the "allowed notes" that belongs to a deep feeling, digging and creating an "essence" that reaches the listener intact, immersing him in a purely emotional dimension, that speaks to the EGO of each, transforming itself into a soundtrack of many individual experiences. Music is a journey and, like the song of the sirens, seduces and bewitches the soul.

Rea and Sakamoto have both explored the paths of experimentation, the former with Martux_m in the project "Reminiscence" (2014) and Sakamoto with a long collaboration with Alva Noto.

The narrative fantasy of Danilo Rea's piano retraces the great Opera arias, in duo with the most famous opera singers of the 20th century. The great Italian composers of the 19th century, loved all over the world, still fill the theaters and make us dream, with the extraordinary expressive force of melodrama, with communicative values that are always current.

“Something in our way”, or the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in the jazz universe of Danilo Rea. The successes of the two British bands, icons of pop and rock music since the 60s, united on the thread of the notes of Danilo's piano to the memory of all of us and enclosed in his solo piano album which has become a Live!!

“In a solo piano work, the real difficulty is to be able to express with just one instrument, and especially without the voice, the pressure of a full band,” he explains. “What I tried to convey with this album is a sense of openness towards everything, because in reality there is only one music and at its base there is the melody: it is made to generate emotions and the key to getting there is all there”.

A TRIBUTE TO FABRIZIO DE ANDRÈ

THE LIVE DEDICATED TO THE GENOESE SINGER

Twenty years have passed since Faber's death and one of today's best pianists, Danilo Rea, offers his personal tribute, in a unique interpretation for solo piano. Published in 2010 in a memorable album for the prestigious Act label, "A tribute to Fabrizio De Andrè" remains one of the most original, but at the same time sensitive and faithful, elaborations of the precious legacy of the Genoese singer-songwriter.

The live performance represents a unique opportunity to listen to De Andrè's famous songs, stripped of their actual meaning, which become the ideal inspiration for Rea's great creative force, which here moves between timeless songs such as "Bocca di Rosa" and "La Canzone di Marinella", intense, heartbreaking ballads ("Caro Amore", "La Stagione del tuo Amore"), to blues and syncopated swing ("La Ballata Dell'Amore Cieco"), even arriving at passages of pure free jazz ("Girotondo").

The result is a magnificent tribute to De André's songs, overflowing with melody and extraordinary technique, a completely personal and original work that offers the world the opportunity to get to know two of the most important Italian artists: Danilo Rea and Fabrizio De Andrè.

An original project that blends traditional classical pieces with those of the jazz tradition, mixing them with acute sensitivity. These are harmonic explorations within famous themes of operas; a series of pieces taken from the most significant works of operatic literature, paying homage to the greatest composers from Puccini to Mascagni, from Saint Saens to Bizet, from the sublime Verdi to the contemporary Bernstein.



Passion and emotion are combined with a classical repertoire with deep respect for the beauty of the originals, reinterpreted with a rich and pure jazz language. Almost like a connecting ring, this project ties together distant genres: jazz and melodrama, playing on the relationship between intimate form and free interpretation, not without incursions into worlds other than the classical one.

The meeting between the two takes place on the level of melody and an artistic collaboration that over time has transformed into a deep friendship. The repertoire includes original compositions by the two artists and very well-known songs of different origins, promptly betrayed. Tradition and betrayal chase each other, betrayal is in this case the highest possible proof of love towards a heritage that others preserve with philologically perfect interpretations or massacre with operations of dubious taste.
